i had to laugh all through this post, because i relate so much. even though i’m american! free refills is one of my favorite things about returning to “this home”. and i get all the same naive questions/comments. shame!

Just so that you know, Americans are often just as clueless about people from other parts of their OWN country. I’m from Georgia, and when I showed up at the Univ. of Virginia for my first year of college, my new roommate (who was Virginian) asked me completely seriously whether people from the South ever owned shoes. (I guess my closet door was closed.) I also had a professor who told me (also completely seriously) that if I didn’t immediately lose my southern accent, he would fail me because I “sounded retarded.”

But I’m sure that my American friends have had a good laugh at me too, like the way I say “Dashund” instead of “Dachshund”. The lady at the vet rolled her eyes at me with that one!
