This boy. He’s still mine.
His big brother is slowly peeling away from my side and grafting in with his father – measuring hands, muscles, and strength against the man he wants to become.
But his brother, this one, is still all baby fat and believing that we are one body sharing the same breath, space, skin. So, when I leave him in the care of others four days a week we both ache.
But, today marks four full days we have spent together.
Thirty five inches of tender white snow has blanketed the miles of distance normally between us.
A beautiful reprieve.
We are reveling in every square inch of it.

i have a 3.5 year old and a 21 month old and while my oldest is slowly becoming his own, independent person…my little one is still like my newborn. still dependent on his mommy in every single way and truly still feels like we are “one”…your words ring so true and im so glad that the snow brought you guys together for a little while
p.s. did they enjoy the shaving cream?
Ha – I actually had my husband get us a new can so we wouldn’t waste through his. Then they became so enamored of the tent fort we built they spent all day in it. But never fear, schools closed next 2 days so we armed and ready with it to keep them entertained!

OH! You’ve gone and made me miss my toddler boys. Well…at least their big-10-year-old selves still ask to snuggle me every single night. I do treasure that time!

My favorite thing about snow days…enjoying time with my kids with no worries of anywhere we need to be.
I’m always so glad to have time with my “babies” (ages 8, 5, almost 3, and 14 mos) cause time flies so fast, and before you know it their “too old” (although really they’ll never really be too old, right?) and think they don’t need the lovin’ and snuggling anymore. My youngest has been miss independent for about 6 mos now, which I would’ve never thought possible at such an early age if you had asked me before she joined our family. But, there is something special isn’t there about the bond between a boy and his mom, even after they gravitate towards their dad. I only have one son, he’s the 5 year old, and there are still moments where he just wants to sit with me and snuggle, moments I cherish. So glad to hear you (and your boys) had so much fun with the fort making, lol, we have a snow day today so I think we’ll be doing the same thing, and perhaps some digging in the recycling bin is in order. Oh and getting their valentines ready, lol, they wouldn’t let me forget about that….

) Nice to meet you! I too grew up in a foreign country. Brazil! My parents were missionaries there for 15 years so I know all about living ” in between”. I see you guys got yourselves some snow! I live in New England so we do see our share of snow. Stay warm and hopefully you’ll be able to dig out of that mess soon!

Thanks – nice to meet you too! Brazil, eh? That’s a long ways from New England – the in between can be a tricky place to live – but full of so many wonderful perspectives on the world. My kids have become awesome little travelers – but it sure is nice to be settled for a while!

I just loved this. While we have only had a couple inches of snow, it has been enough to close schools. While I know it has been an inconvenience to many, for me it has been a wonderful gift…me on maternity leave and all three of my girls at home on cold snowy days. Hot chocolate and hugs all around. Thank you, Lord. May the memories of these days be burned in my heart,
