We’ve been house bound since Thursday night.
We’ve mashed, smashed and eaten play-doh.
We’ve finger painted the glass door.
We’ve played drums and guitar and shaken our respective booties to the beat of the Wiggles.
We’ve made brownies, pancakes and pizza.
We’ve groomed our pretend pets and their downtrodden parents.
We’ve washed dishes and “helped” with the laundry.
We’ve had snowball fights with baby wipes and dug trails through pans of rice with diggers and dozers.
We’ve snacked and dunked and hop, skipped and jumped.
We’ve photographed the snow, baby brothers, and the underbelly of the changing table.
We’ve played in knee deep drifts outside and thawed out to hot chocolate and “Mighty Machines” inside.
And we’ve heard that schools we be closed again on Monday.
HELP.
No idea is too wild to try to keep the troops entertained.

I’m assuming Peter is stuck too? When is the expected departure now?
By the way… if you can handle it, Michael recommends snow forts. He was remembering them fondly today.

time to put them in their swim suits, send to the bathtub to pretend it is summer, make some juice popsickles, put your shades on, fill a small tray with sugar or the like (for sand…) and hope and pray the schools will be open on Tuesday…because if they aren’t…

Making a fort out of sheets and the kitchen table, and lots of pillows to lay on underneath……then reading books and making up stories and pretending you’re in a far away land. Clearing a space, decorate, and have a dance party after you turn the radio/cd on and turn it way up. Indoor basketball with balled up socks and a laundry hamper. Making window decorations with two sheets of clear contact paper with cut out tissue paper shapes in between. Making creations from the things in the recycling bin and letting their imaginations run wild….. {:o)

Make a snowman family. (sorry, I’m not very creative!)
I have 2 little boys so we have practice in this area:
-make a fort
-shaving cream paintings on the kitchen table
-puppets out of paper sacks & then perform a puppet show
-write/color letters to send to out-of-town relatives
-
Beans, macaroni, glue?
sock puppets?
macaroni necklaces?
naps? (haha. that was a joke. at least in MY house.)
give them the camera and make their own story book?
I just throw them outside with a good pair of mittens.
Indoor tents. Or a closet hideway with a lamp some books etc. Hope it helps!
Wow. I was gone for the weekend and look what happens to you! It does look like the Michigan I grew up in…we don’t have that much snow here right now! You can send some our way, or from the looks of it we should send some snowplows your way (they do have them there, right???)
Waiting out snow storms can test any Mommy! I just saw a blog post recently (can’t remember where) that mixed a little food coloring into milk, and they used that to paint marshmallows. Edible artwork! Paperchains to decorate their rooms. Treasure hunts. Good luck!!
Since you mentioned finger paints… I still have a beautiful finger painted heart with a note on it for a gift I gave one of my co-workers.
Mom had her 3 year old finger paint some pictures on plain white paper – using pinks and reds. When the paint was dry, she later cut out hearts big enough to write a small thank you note on. She punched a hole and used ribbon to make a gift tag.
Super cute… they could also be used for Valentine’s gifts or any fun little notes for special family members. Easy to mail & the kids really feel part of the process since they “decorate” the hearts.
– BTW – I am totally with the indoor fort ideas! Blankets over tables or couch cushions up ended with a blanket over the top… fun building. Burrow underneath with a flashlight for each kid & it’s a great time! I play forts with my nephews and niece.
Paper wad wars… make two forts on respective sides of the room, make tons of paper wads, big and small and have fun… in our family we always set a time limit and whoever had the least number of paperwads behind their fort when time was called won… we loved it
as we’re down here sweating in South America, I sure wish I could share in some snow days!
