I am most myself when

in Sweetstuff

I am most myself when I am buried nose deep in the well-thumbed pages of a favorite, familiar, beloved book.

I am most myself when I am rocking, cheek-to-cheek, breathing in the sweet breath of one of our slumbering boys.

I am most myself when I am sitting in the back row of a worship service, letting the music wash through my soul.

I am most myself when I am belly ache laughing with Pete at some private, intimate brand of funny that only we share.

OK, your turn.

i am most myself when i’m talking passion and vision.

i am most myself when i’m doing absolutely nothing with a friend i feel completely safe and comfortable with.

i am most myself when i’m laughing uncontrollably.

i am most myself when i’m singing loudly and off-key in my car, the sound system volume at MAX.

i am most myself when i’m sitting quietly at His feet.

Oh, I am going to like this …

I am most myself when my house is filled with the evening time of homework’s happening/dinner’s fixing/Daddy’s finally home welcoming and I am able to smile at the beautiful chaos that is “home.”

I am most myself when the quiet darkness of night still hangs over my house, the two I love the most are still nestled warmly in bed her small arm tangled up in his big strong one, while I wrap myself in a well-worn, made with love quilt and hold my warm cup of coffee as I open the Word of Life and wait … quiet and still for Him to speak.

You realize that the second one was practically poetry, right? Beautiful.

I am most myself when I’m sitting at the piano playing and singing my heart out.

I am most myself when I’m curled up on the couch with a warm blanket, reading a good Christian fiction book.

I am most myself when I’m cuddling with my kids and we’re laughing about things that only we would think is funny.

I am most myself when I’m alone and praying to the God who I have come to realize loves me unconditionally.

This was a very neat post! :-)

* I am most myself when I’m cuddled under a blanket letting the language of a good book wash over me.
* I am most myself when I am up to my elbows in flour, sugar, and frosting.
* I am most myself when I am laughing until I cry with people I love.
* I am most myself when I get to lose myself in praise and worship – on the platform on Sundays, alone in my car, anywhere.
* I am most myself when I am having quiet, hopeful talks about the future with my husband.
* I am most myself when I get to laugh, cry, share a meal, and talk about books and life with my dearest friends.

And, I am learning that I am most myself when I am being obedient to God and allowing him to use me, even (always) in ways that take me far out of my comfort zone.

I love how being caught up in a book or good story is a trend around here.

Oh, and true confession: my husband kept nagging me to do our vows through “interpretative dance” – the closest I’ve ever come to dramatic interpretation of anything ;) (for the record: we did not)

I am most myself in the midst of a dance party with my three kids, or snuggled in my blankets, lying in bed talking to my husband after a long day. :)

Oh how I wish I could say that about the sewing machine – but alas, mama ain’t got no sewing skills!

I am most myself in the quiet of the night, with my loved ones sleeping soundly upstairs while I sip a last cup of tea.

I am most myself when I bring my laptop in the bathroom/am driving with my ipod and turn the volume up way loud and get lost in a song.

I’m most myself in the kitchen, creating something that ultimately has no judge but me (the first round, anyway).

I am going to spend some time thinking about this…and noticing more…I think I’ve gotten away from being Most Like Myself…too many years being my version of What I Think I’m Supposed To Be Like or What Everyone Wants Me To Be…But, when I first read it…what struck me…was a recent moment in which I just danced…I was alone and moved by a song and I was Most Like Myself just dancing and dancing…it was a powerful moment of reconnecting to me. So, I’m thinking, there are more moments when I am most like myself and I will spend some time on discovering them! Thanks for the inspiration. I’ve lived in this space of disconnectedness for too long!

Interesting, isn’t it – how ourselves are sometimes the hardest folks to find. I wish you well on that treasure hunt – may the road to yourself be paved with dancing, lots of dancing!

I am most myself when I am singing praise to my God, singing funny Muppets songs all by myself, and singing ‘Ain’t no Mountain High Enough’ with my two boys.

I am most myself when I can be creative and pour my heart into an item of cross-stitching, a homemade card, or piece of knitting.

I am most myself when reading, writing or dancing. Or any combination thereof.

Loved this. :)

I like your answers. They’re true for me, too. I’ve been thinking on this for a while, because it’s such a great question. Here’s one I came up with:

I’m most myself when I’m driving in my car alone, singing and dancing to bad 80s/90s music. Yes. Dancing.

“oh, oh, Livin’ on a Prayer!” That’ll do it for me every time. Every. Time.

I keep coming back to read new comments! Love it!

I’m most myself on Sundays after a morning of worship and fellowship at church, when my two boys and pastor husband are full of good food and taking their afternoon naps while I watch “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives” and write blog posts for the week. All of my favorite things in one day!
