So this is what "store houses" of snow looks like

February 10, 2010

Then the LORD answered Job out of the storm:

He said: “Who is this that darkens my counsel
with words without knowledge?”

“Brace yourself like a man;
I will question you,
and you shall answer me.”

“Have you entered the storehouses of the snow
or seen the storehouses of the hail?”

“Does the rain have a father?
Who fathers the drops of dew?

From whose womb comes the ice?
Who gives birth to the frost from the heavens
when the waters become hard as stone,
when the surface of the deep is frozen?”

“Who endowed the heart with wisdom
or gave understanding to the mind?

Who has the wisdom to count the clouds?
Who can tip over the water jars of the heavens?”

Then Job answered the LORD:

“I am unworthy—how can I reply to you?
I put my hand over my mouth.”

Today with 1 inch-plus per hour snow and 50 mph winds, I know how he feels.

Washington’s Dulles Airport has just tied another record.  This time, for the most snow on the ground since records started in 1962.  They have 2 feet of snow cover right now.  They will likely eclipse this record in the next hour!

So, I find myself saying with Job,

“My ears had heard of you
but now my eyes have seen you
.”

All verses taken from the book of Job chapters 38, 40 & 42.

Now that’s the kind of snow we used to get growing up! What a great perspective you put it in with the verses from Job, and beautiful pictures too!

I was thinking of you yesterday, as I shoveled the remaining few inches of our 8.5″ in St. Paul, MN yesterday. I was thinking, “I’m so glad I only have about a foot & a half of drifted LIGHT snow. Not 2-3 feet of heavy snow…”

Good luck with the snow. At least it’s pretty. (That’s my mantra when I’m shoveling…)

Do you think if we cry “UNCLE!” loud enough, God will take pity on us? Heh. LOVED the verses.

I too am one of those who is reading and admiring the gorgeous photos from a (very grateful) place of relative comfort. After hearing the stories of my housebound DC/east coast friends, it certainly puts my freedom of movement in perspective! Who’d have thought I’d ever be happy to go to the post office?

These verse are perfect, I love the way you see the world. :)
