Five Minute Friday: Whole

August 5, 2011

in Daughters,Five Minute Friday

I love words.

I love how you weave words together.

Your story matters. It impacts my story.

So let your words and your story breathe today. Take five minutes and just write without criticizing your words, yourself or your story. Just write without worrying if it’s just right or not.

  1. Write your words without editing them.
  2. Tell your readers you’re linking up here and invite them to come and share their unedited stories too.
  3. And most importantly, go visit, read, and compliment the person who shared right before you.

Easy peasy. OK, are you ready? Give me your best five minutes for the prompt:

Whole…

GO:

I know the world is full of broken bits. I know there are chunks blown right out of it by all the ugly and selfish and plain mean we are capable of. I know it has deep valleys of agony and guts that ache and all the wanting to change it might not.

I know these things.

I have seen them with my own eyes.

So on days when I look across at my daughter sometimes I am flooded with the sheer grace of what she represents. So much so that it’s right there, in her name. Zoe Grace.

Life and Grace.

He pours them into me through her and all my own black holes and scary, ugly, selfish places are laced with the pure wonder of this daughter I don’t deserve.

Zoe Grace.

You fill me up to overflowing. So full, so put-back-together, so completely re-puzzled out of all those mismatched years and pieces. You make me whole.

Wholly happy, wholly full, wholly translated as a woman.

You put me back together in unexpected ways, my daughter, and it makes me smile as bright and pink and happy as that skirt, that chubby knee and those completely kissable toes.

STOP.

OK, your turn – show me what you’ve got.

That skirt is adorable!! So fun. :) It’s the only time in our life where chubby knees are a must-have accessory. Haha!

When I look at my children, I see Jesus. And I am so much closer to wholeness when I see these gifts He’s given to me. I am so thankful to be linking up here.

Love baby girls in little skirts. After I had 2 boys and then God blessed us with 2 girls, I know what you mean. What a gift, what a blessing these precious kids are. How they reflect the Father, and how they make us feel whole!

It is amazing, how we see them, and no matter what has really happened that day, this year, our whole lives – we just get filled up by His grace and His perfect gifts in our lives!

Lovely.
And she is Adorable! (rockin’ the skirt!)

This is my first time participating. I really enjoyed it! Sorry to #41, I tried to comment but “my request couldn’t be comptleted at this time.” Whatever that means! Sometimes I can post and other times I can’t. I don’t know what the problem is.

Great post. It’s a amazing how our kids make us feel whole. I remember after having my son (who is now 7) I told my husband that I officially felt like a grown up! This little guy was our responsibility. He has brought so much beauty to our lives.

I guess if you’ve been blogging for a while it may be no big deal, but I just can’t help but thinking how excited I would be to see so many folks linking up in one day on the blog I created. I just checked out a few links and when I returned, poof, there were 3 more here. Way to go gypsy mama. :)

Girl, I tell you what – it never gets old, I’m constantly astounded by this beautiful community of writers, and I can spend hours sifting through the words they so generously share. Special it always is – thank YOU for coming to join with us today. I love the company! Let’s put our feet up, drink lemonade and kick back over some great writing :)

This was beautiful! I never read your post before I write mine (I just read the prompt, then come back later to read yours). I find it so interesting that both of us wrote that our daughters make us feel whole. It’s amazing that becoming a parent can be God’s way of healing us.

I love that name–Zoe Grace.

My grandgirl is Grace. Grace Elizabeth.

Gracee.

My daughter’s saving grace. She was 17 and unmarried when she was born.

I can’t imagine life without her.

I just wanted to tell you thank you for doing Five Minute Friday. My words have felt “stuck” for such a long time. And I’m in a season where I feel so “stuck” in other ways. I started to feel prompted to write again, but it was just so overwhelming… I’d start to put pencil to paper and it just wasn’t right. I was forcing it too hard or starting in a place that wouldn’t flow. Then I did last weeks Five Minute Friday for the first time–Just five minutes and words were THERE! I’m letting God work in me by letting Him work loose the words. This is week two and I literally woke up this morning and thought, “I get to do another Five Minute Friday Today!”

Thank you for helping me remember how to just have fun and let the words come.

Val

Finally squeezed out the time to join you…
Took me alot longer than the five minutes – had to grab a minute or two, here & there – in between changing diapers, ferrying to youth group, loads of laundry – you know, the usual!
Thanks for giving me a bit of inspiration to dig into His Word, seeking His wholeness for my stumbling journey.
