Around here we write for five minutes flat on Fridays.

We write because we want to, not because we have to. We write for fun, for joy, for discovery at how much creativity is crammed in our heads and even if we just unlock if for five minutes it can paint the world in dazzling wonder.

In her toes curled over in a pool of sunshine; those chubby cheeks. Where did she get them? At this hugs and his brave heart. At my team of kids who loved well and listened even when they didn’t while daddy was out of town. A hot bath and a good book.

Mozarella sticks late at night with Peter.

Friends who celebrate.

A sunset and the boy who points it out to me. The wonder of a new idea, a dream, a brainwave that bedazzles you out of nowhere. Being useful. Feeling useful. Laughing hard at a twitter conversation that makes no sense to anyone else.

Bible study every Tuesday night. Women who know my real stories, who watch me live them. Remembering that Christ lives in me. Discovering again what that means. Studying the ways God loves me, challenges me, grows me, cherishes me.

Sinking into the bed I’ve slept in since the day we were first married every night. Sleep. Uninterrupted sleep even better. The baby first thing in the morning. Oh how she loves. Oh how she teaches me to love. Families on two sides of the ocean who live the example of sacrifice. Joyful sacrifice. I get so caught up in it I forget I’m learning.
